Recycling and cleaning of building materials

Driven by the principle of Blue Technology, Carmans BT has specialized in recycling and cleaning all kinds of contaminated soils and waste materials. In 2005, we started a soil cleaning center where we process contaminated soils and waste materials by cleaning them into a recycled secondary raw material. These secondary raw materials even reach the quality of primary substances. In this way, we create a closed system, maximizing our commitment to recycling and renewable energy.

Soil cleaning

Biological

The basic principle of biological soil remediation is to convert mineral oil present in contaminated soil into harmless substances, such as water and CO2. Usually, these contaminated soils come from gas stations, oil depots, leaking fuel oil tanks, disasters, ...

Physical/chemical

In physicochemical soil cleaning, we split a soil by special sequential techniques, known from mining, into different fractions to remove highly contaminated sludge and organic material from the soil batch and dump it. We can reuse the other fractions obtained as secondary building materials.

This technique is suitable for sandy to loamy soils contaminated with heavy oils (e.g. waste oil, motor oil, hydraulic oil), heavy metals (galvanic industry), PAHs (road works, gas plants) and chlorinated products (e.g. dry cleaning products, PCBs). Various mineral waste streams such as sweeping sand, sewage sludge, gully sludge and car wash sludge are also recycled into reusable materials through this technique.

Thermal

Highly contaminated soils that we cannot clean by biological or physico/chemical means are processed using thermal cleaning techniques. Provided that the contamination can be converted to the gas phase by heating. Typical contaminants: heavy motor oil, PAHs, and heavy metal such as mercury.

Waste processing

You can deliver various contaminated mineral waste flows to Carmans: sweepings, sewage sludge, gully sand, carwash sludge, filter sand, sand from sand traps, sand from oil-water separators, etc. These are also converted into certified secondary raw materials using cleaning techniques.

Solar and wind energy

Blue Technology also means making maximum use of renewable energy. Carmans does this with both wind and solar energy. We have 2.2 MWatt of installed solar power and 6.15 MWatt of installed wind power. The result is an annual reduction of our CO2 emissions by 14,000 tons. By comparison, this would allow about 10,000 families to drive 15,000 km by car annually.

A great example of such an economical and ecological end product are our BLUEBLOCKS. These concrete blocks are produced with renewable energy and consist of recycled, secondary raw materials.
