Carmans launches innovative solutions for PFAS: BlueCure and RemBind set a new standard for sustainable remediation

Carmans launches innovative solutions for PFAS: BlueCure and RemBind set a new standard for sustainable remediation

PFAS: an increasingly significant challenge

Flanders is facing a major challenge relating to PFAS, with thousands of contaminated sites and risks to drinking water, agriculture and the food chain. Conventional remediation techniques, such as incineration and activated carbon, are costly, energy-intensive and generate significant CO₂ emissions. Carmans has therefore developed innovative alternatives that tackle the problem at source.

BlueCure: a revolutionary water treatment system

BlueCure removes PFAS from water using foam fractionation, an innovative technique in which PFAS molecules attach themselves to air bubbles and are concentrated in the foam. This results in:
- Minimal waste production (no tonnes of saturated carbon)
- A low carbon footprint and low energy consumption
- High flow rates (up to 70 m³/h), ideal for Flemish industry and remediation projects

RemBind: an in situ solution for soil

For PFAS present in soil, Carmans is launching RemBind, a powdered sorbent that permanently immobilises PFAS in the soil.
Benefits:
- No transport or incineration
- Drastic reduction in CO₂ emissions
- Protection of groundwater, agriculture and the food chain

“With BlueCure and RemBind, we are taking a major step towards a PFAS-free future. Our solutions are not only effective, but also sustainable and scalable across Flanders,” says Stefan Carmans, CEO of Carmans.
